Joseph L. Vigilante | Joseph L. Vigilante was born in Philadelphia in 1925. He joined the Army Air Corps and served from 1943 to 1945. He served as an OSS radio operator in Japanese occupied China earning him Bronze Star. After the war, Joe married Florence in 1952. He trained as a social worker, receiving degrees from Temple and Columbia including a Doctorate. He taught and became Dean of Social Work at Adelphi from 1962 – 1987. When he retired he was appointed University Professor of Social Policy. He received citations from the governors of New York and Vermont. He remained an active member of the OSS Society.
